Our Staff
Harry Smith has over forty years experience in the Construction Industry. Since 1962 he has owned and operated a successful, award winning, custom building and remodeling business serving the residential, light commercial and institutional construction needs of the Greater Boston area.With the knowledge and experience gained in the construction industry, in 1978, in response to numerous requests, Harry began performing home and building inspections. In 1991 he formed H.F. Smith & Associates as a Construction Consulting and Inspection Services company.
Over this period of 27 years Harry has performed thousands of home and building inspections, has acted as a construction consultant to both home owners and to members of the construction industry and has been qualified as an construction expert in numerous courts and arbitration proceedings.
Harry holds a certification from Northeastern University in Real Estate Inspections and is a Licensed Home Inspector in Massachusetts. He is a full fledged member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), including the local New England chapter, the International Code Council (ICC), The Historic Building Inspectors Association (HBIA), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and a Registered Senior Member of the Society of Professional Real Estate Inspectors. Harry is also an accredited Commercial Real Estate Inspector(CRRI) and Residential Real Estate Inspector (RREI) by the Foundation of Real Estate Appraisers (FREA).
He also holds an unrestricted MA. Construction Supervisor License (CSL)Harry has earned the designation of Certified Graduate Remodelor (CGR) and Graduate Master Builder (GMB) from the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) where he serves as a National Director from MA and is a member of the Construction Codes & Standards Committee of NAHB.
In addition, Harry serves on the Board of Directors of the Home Builders Association of Massachusetts (HBAM).
Harry represented the Home Builders on the Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) Advisory Board, a state board that oversees the registration of contractors and the administration of a consumer guaranty fund.
Recently, Harry was appointed by Governor Romney to serve on the Board of Building Regulations & Standards (BBRS), the state agency that promulgates the MA State Building Code, administers the Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration, regulates builder licensing and hears building code appeals. -
